What is compulsive gambling?

Gambling addiction is a progressive illness with no cure, but it can be arrested. Before seeking help, many sufferers may view themselves as morally weak or “no good.” However, with a simple program that has helped many other men and women with similar problems, compulsive gamblers can recover if they follow it to the best of their ability.

What is the first thing a compulsive gambler should do to stop gambling?

To recover from compulsive gambling, the individual must acknowledge their illness and have a desire to get well. Our program has proven effective for anyone with a desire to stop gambling. However, it won’t work for those who refuse to face the reality of their illness.

How can you tell whether you are a compulsive gambler?

Determining whether you are a compulsive gambler is a personal decision. Many people seek help only after admitting that gambling has caused them significant problems. A compulsive gambler is someone whose gambling has led to growing and persistent issues in various areas of their life. Some have experienced frightening situations, while others have faced a gradual decline before seeking help and admitting defeat.

Gambling defined:

Any betting or wagering, for self or others, whether for money or not, no matter how slight or insignificant, where the outcome is uncertain or depends upon chance or “skill” constitutes gambling.

Admission Process

To schedule an assessment/intake appointment at Right Choice Recovery for yourself or someone else, call 732-908-2111. One of our admissions staff members will assist you with the next steps so you can get the help you need.

What happens after you call to schedule an assessment?

1. Admissions requests client information

Our admissions staff member takes your general and insurance information as well as a brief description of your current symptoms or substance use. If you cannot contact us yourself, family members, doctors, social workers, EAPs or therapists can schedule the initial appointment on your behalf.

2. Admissions schedules a Level of Care Assessment (LOCA)

Admissions will help determine which level of care is best suited for you based on the programming available, and will schedule your intake with one of our clinicians at the facility. The admissions interview is not a clinical evaluation. It is simply to schedule an intake appointment.
